Hi all,

If I need to set up a "Power User" account but with no network / internet connection, how would I go about it? Is it even possible?

I use one of my computers for two different needs. The first is for personal / business use (Admin login). The second is for music production (music login).

When recording music, I need all the resources I can get. I don't want to be connected to the internet while using the "music" login, that way I won't need to use my firewall, my antivirus, and a whole host of other stuff that saps my resources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Aaron

I should have added this before,

I don't want to disallow internet access, I want my ethernet adapter to be totally disabled while logged in with the "music" login.

As it stands now, I can simply login to the "music" username, then go into device panel and disable the ethernet port... but I don't want to have to do that every time I login as "music" or have to enable it if I switch to the "admin" login.

Is there a way to save this disabled setting for just the one login profile?

BTW, thanks for the quick reply.

You should be able to accomplish that using "hardware profiles"... try a forum search or a Google search for that.

Yeah, that will work for me. Thanks for the help.

Now, any ideas on how to set up different system.ini or something that keeps certain programs from loading?

I'm sorry for all the help needed, I know a lot about XP but some things I've just never had to do.

Any help on loading and not loading certain programs at start up?

Thanks for all of the previous replies by the way.

Aaron

You could use something like
which lets you edit (including adding) what starts up with windows/users etc (unlike msconfig which just lets you enable/disable existing entries).

Obviously run it in the intended user logon.

autoruns from might also be useful.
