Disabling IDLE System Process...

Hey everybody!

Does anyone have a clue as to how I could possibly disable the System Idle Process? I tried to disable it from the services manager, but i couldn't find it...can anyone help?

100% - Processor Use = Idle Processor Use

You cannot disable this. What you need to be concerned about is a situation where you have a large Idle Process and at the same time a high Processor usage. This without question indicates a virus.

Do a complete virus scan. There are several on-line that you can use:

Well it says that the System Idle Process CPU usage is 97%. Although I am having no problems with applications opening slowly or slow performance so I am going to assume that this is some kind of glitch. I also ran a virus scan using Norton Antivirus with the most up-to-date definitions and it came up with nothing.

System Idle Process in the Task Manager process list reflects the idle unused cycles of the processor. The higher the better. The figure you should look at is CPU Usage in the box below the process list or under the Performance tab. If usage is high here you may have a problem. Usage will vary as you load and unload various programs.

OK, Thanks guys, i think I get it now. You see, the reason I asked to begin with was because after i start up my computer it just hangs for about a minute and I believed it to be the fault of the System Idle Process, but it turns out that I was mistaken. Does anyone have any idea why it might just hang for a period of time when i start up?

Look at the freeware tool from Microsoft called Bootvis.exe .

Choose Action, let it do a scan. Choose action again and let it optimize. You will get full details of the boot process and what is using the time during the boot.

The optomize feature should re-locate your boot drivers to a faster section of the hard disk with a mini-defragmentation process.

How many things are loading at Startup, besides the Services, have a look in Msconfig?

I have found that most of the time during boot on my PC is WinXP trying to log into the Network/DSL router and trying to locate the other pc's on my home network. If I disable the LAN and reboot, it comes up very quick.

I am not sure what steps you are taking to "disable the LAN and reboot" but you might consider doing this:

Start, Run, gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
System
Logon
Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
[/tt]
Disable this policy.
