After getting the sircam virus, I cannot remove files from the C:\_Restore directory. The Norton antivirus instructions say to diable the system restore by right clicking on My Computer, going to Properties etc etc. However, I cannot open the properties of My Computer nor can I open the system properties in the Control Panel. Does anyone know of another way to disable system restore?

Disable System restore in Windows ME

Here are a couple of things you can try:
- press START KEY AND BREAK key simultaneously, (that should get you into the system properties)
- also goto: START MENU->RUN->MSCONFIG
- click the start-up tab
- uncheck PCHealth
Press Apply, OK, then re-start
That should turn off system restore.
If you are SURE you want to DELETE files in C:\RESTORE folder (but you can't just right-click and delete, or drag them to the trash), do the following.
Get a floppy disk ready (it will be formatted)
then goto:
- START->SETTINGS->CONTROL PANELS->ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
- Click on START-UP DISK tab
- insert disk and press CREATE DISK
Once that is finished, keep the disk in and re-start your computer. If will run from the disk. When prompted choose Minimal Boot (option-4). Then at the c:\ prompt type the following:
- C:\DELTREE _RESTORE
- then push "Y"
once that is finished, remove disk, and re-start.
All the files including the _restore folder will be deleted.
You can not undo this (make sure you want to do this b4 you do do it)
