How do I disable the Ctrl-Alt-Del required key press when you log out and log in again? I know it can be done because I have seen it, I need to disable this becuase we manage machines remotly and this function can't be passed remotly.

Thanks -

You will have to edit the registry to change this.

Run regedit

Under this location (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\Winlogon)

There is an entry called "DisableCAD"

Change the value of this key to "1" to disable the requirment of having to press Ctrl,Alt,Del.

Hope this helps...

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL. Then go to ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS then LOCAL SECURITY POLICY. Expand LOCAL POLICIES then click on SECURITY OPTIONS. Find "Disable CTL+ALT+DELETE requirement for Login." Double click on it and set it to DISABLE. Hit ok and get out of the Polocies. Next go to START>RUN> then type cmd
At the cmd prompt type the following:

secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce

This should reset the policy. If not then reboot.
Remember if this machine is on a Domain, then all domain policies will over right local policies. James Collins

An easier way is to go the Control Panel, Users and Passwords. Go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before logging on."

That boots the system right into windows with no security. James Collins

When the Ctrl-Alt-Del is disabled, we still have to log into Novell (with password) before gaining access to the network. We also have machines set up so that no "guest" can use them. Is there something else I'm missing? I really am interested. I never thought about your response, but it makes sense.

Wrong.. Security is ALWAYS an issue. If you're honestly thinking with your false sense of security that it doesn't matter, email me and I will prove otherwise. The CTRL+ALT+DEL window is just one more deterrence for would-be hackers because it's next to impossible to perform these keystrokes remotely to gain access to machines on the LAN. If they gain access to the workstations, they can piggy-back to the server and perform Denial of Service attacks or other things that will cause a network to crash. Assume nothing, expect the unexpected.
