Hi have a patient at a hospital that keeps dialing 911 from a phone.(a pay phone we own. I have tryed to disable the pay phone program itself but was unsuccessful.)Is there anyway I can program the program on the switch to not allow this line to call 911? Thanks P.S. this phone was used to call 911 over 800 times in 2 weeks. Pretty much pissed off the 911 office to say the least.

TARG/TGAR is the commonly preferred way of blocking access to trunk resources.

GHTrout's TARG/TGAR reference

Isn't this something that patient services should address though? If the patient cannot be trusted to behave properly, shouldn't s/he be monitored or something?

you know its not what staff can do. It's how they can get tech's to change something over and over.

I think it is illegal to block 911 being dialed on a pay phone, but I could be wrong.

why not remove the phone.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

We have to provide patients access to dial out and recieve calls. This is long term hospital "TB" and the only in the state that you are court ordered to be here. I am not sure but some meds have different affects on people so lets just say there are some issues that can't be controlled and nurse don't get paid that much. And nurses are to provide patient care and not expected to watch who patients are calling. I sent a email to the vendor but you guys are much more reliable. The payphone is connected through the switch on an analog extension. is it possible that I can just prevent the the phone on the a ld fromm dial 911. I will the TGAR.

tgar will only work IF 911 goes out over a unique route, which is not usually the case..

i would build a new rlb for 911 and set the frl to 1, then any station with a ncos of 0 could not dial 911... depending on how it;s built now that may be the fastest way.. do not change the frl on a rlb unless your sure of how many numbers are pointed to it..

Be very careful that you don't block everyone from dialing 911.

great advice, in bars you need to check any change.. anything you change will affect all station.. my post was based on the assumption that your normal phones are ncos'ed above 1... my bad

Be VERY CAREFUL here. TGAR/TARG blocking will only work if you do NOT have ESA turned on. If you don not have ESA turned on, you are passing 911 as a regular call and the PBX has no idea that a 911 call has happened.

No special routing
No CLID manipulation
No On Site Notification
etc.

The best way to block a singe device in a special case like this, and still leave ESA active is to assign a PreTranslation table to the device that you are having a problem with and catch the offending calls.

Before you do anything, you should check with your legal department. You may be accepting liability you don't want.

If you have 5.00, you can assign that set to a special ERL (even TDM phones) and that ERL can have special routing that locally terminates the call from that particular phone to a 24x7 guard station or similar. Again, you are accepting liability if you locally terminate, and more an more states are even making THIS practice illegal unless approved in writing by local Public Safety official. CT added this clause a little while back.
