Hi,

lately my directory browsing is extremely slow. So whenever I want to open or save a file in any program and the little pop-up appears to browse to the correct directory, it takes minutes before the different directories open.

Any ideas what the reason can be?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Ok this is probably due to your low physical RAM (Memory).
If you have XP i recommend 256meg ram minimum and if you have 98 or Me i suggest 128meg.

If memory is not the problem do a Scandisk and check if your Hard drive is fragmented by using the defreag program that you can find in the windows start menu.

If its still not that. Maybe its because you have a CD-Rom in your reader or a floppy. You could disable your floppy disk or just remove media inside it.

The two first cause are probably your problem.

If it still slow after that write again and tell me the computer you have.

Hope it help

Why it takes years to display right-click drop down menu?

I tried quite of the above suggestions but nothing really helped :-(

I found the reason meanwhile though: it is because I had mapped some network drives. When I don't connect to the network I get this extremely slow directory browsing.

Does anyone know how this can be solved because I would find it quite convenient that I do not have to map and disconnect my network drives all the time.

Thanks again in advance.
