Hello:

We are having a problem with ProComm.
Hope I can correctly explain it.

There are times when ProComm is unable to connect via phone.
The current setting is set for the correct modem.

It may go on for about 15-20 minutes.
During that time another WinBatch script kicks off another ProComm session.

This new ProComm Session will go into Direct Connect-Com1.
After that, All the Procomm sessions default to Direct Connect-Com1

Info about the system and ProComm
Operating System is Windows 2000
ProComm Verision is ProComm Plus 32

Any Ideas on how to fix this, or what is causing this problem?

Thanks in Advance

I think part of this is if Procomm is configured for a certain connection and it cannot grab that connection (say the first instance of Procomm has it already), then Procomm will default to direct connect-COM1. You could try adding a line to startup.was that reads "set modem connection <connection>" where <connection> is the name of the modem that Procomm should be using. When another instance of Procomm then starts up, it will try to set its current connection to the specified modem. You can take a look at the discussion of the set modem connection command in the ASPECT help file for more information on this.

thanks for the reply.

That is exactly what our problem is.
I find procomm and aspect very confusing.
Let me go through the easy to read documentation. lol

Thanks

I am still tring to figure out this "Set Modem Connect".
We are using ProComm 32

The "set modem connection" examples are:

modem connection index | string | CURRENT | FIRST

Specifies the active data modem connection. Either a zero-based index, or the name of a data modem connection in the Current Modem/Connection list in Setup, System, Modem Connection may be used. This command will fail if an attempt is made to set a Connection Directory entry to "direct connect-none", "direct connect-Telnet", or a modem/connection that has incnctlist set to OFF. This command will also fail if you specify a modem/connection that has incnctlist set to OFF. fetch returns the contents of the Current Modem/Connection field in a string.

Please note that the index value for TAPI connections begins at 10, even though TAPI connections may be displayed at the top of the Current Modem/Connection list. Other connections have zero-based indexes. For example, "direct connect-none" is always index 0, followed in order by the other connections in the list.
The CURRENT and FIRST keywords are valid only for a specified Connection Directory entry. The FIRST keyword is valid only when accessing a Fax entry.

I can not figure this aspect lanquage out.

I am very confused. Can you give me some more assistance?

thanks

The command you want to use will look like:

set modem connection "string"

where string is the name of your modem as it appears in Procomm's Setup dialog or in the Quick Select Line box at the bottom of the Procomm window. You can get the string value by selecting the Options | System Options | Modem Connection menu item in Procomm and setting the Current Modem/Connection setting to your modem, if necessary.

Thanks for all your help with this issue.

After I made the change yesterday, I discovered that we use about 20 other .WAS files for other procomm sessions. I added the Set Modem line to all files.
Ran several tests and seems to work just great.

Thanks
