I placed a new Latitude D600 notebook with a user. Soon after she started getting error messages such as "Digital Line Detected (PBX), Please verify that your phone line from your computer is directly connected to a standard analog modem or fax line". This message occurs if she is attached to our network (tcp/ip) or not connected at all.

What I know: It has a Conexant D480 V.9x modem, some software from a vendor called BVRP with the modem. There is a folder under program files, called "Digital Line Detect". A process, dlg.exe is running in task manager. If I end process of dlg.exe - - my problem goes away.

What I can't figure out is: what is this about, and what application is causing this? I removed an app called Netwaiting with no results. It's Windows2000 spak4; Office 2000 spak1; the modem was configured by me to dial into our network. No other extraneous software.

Any ideas as to how I can permanently turn this off?

Use this utility it's an enhanced version of Task Manager, it let's you know which application is making the dlg.exe run and where to stop it\remove it.

As far as removing it, try going into the start up folder on your Start menu, if it's not there, go to the registry (make sure that you make a back up before deleting) and go to Hkey_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run and look for the dlg.exe, highlight it and delete it. Before doing so, be very positive that is the executable that you want to delete.

Hope that helps

thank you for your response. I missed looking in the obvious place - the startup group!!! Apparently the Digital Line Detect is a 'feature' that came with this modem. I removed it from the startup group - problem resolved.

I also downloaded and ran the enhanced task manager utility - awesome. I definitely have future uses for this. I appreciate your reply and assistance!
