Anyone hear of a Digital Certificate for a 1140 VOIP, this past weekend we had a site that 1140 phones just started dropping of the network. We contacted Avaya and it turns out that a 1140 with a Nortel Logo has a 5 year Digital Certificate and you have to renew them.
When the system was purchased there was nothing said about this. 2002 and 2004 are not affected.

Never heard of that, but I will watch this post if its true or not as I have a lot of customers with 1120's and E's out there. My thought was that the IP sets where governed by the IP licenses.

That is what we were thinking, you pay for the switch licences and then you buy the phone. The new 1120 and 1120 with the Avaya Logo have a 10 year Certification.

Believe it just gives another five years, the bad part of this is that the clock starts when the phone is made. Over the weekend we must have had 30 to 40 just go into a loop looking for the server, Avaya had to do some research with there Backbone people to find out what was going on.They have us a code to input into the phone to reset it but we could never get it to stop looping. Avaya finally wrote a policy in the SS, but if the SS reboots we are back to square one.

I hope someone is pulling my leg or yours LOL, I think there will be a lot of PO'ed customers pretty soon. Must have been a engineer that come up with something like this.

We just had this same issue on 2 sites. Had to put new firmware in the SS for 1140 phones and all is well.

The policy they wrote in the SS was NOT TO UPDATE

I don't know anything about the Policy. All I can tell you is we had the Digital Certificate issue also and we upgraded the 1140 firmware and the phones upgraded and started working again. I think it is the Digital Certificate on the firmware file, not the actual SS. That fixed our issue anyway, yours could be different. But the phones were stuck in a endless reboot. Once the new firmware was put in the SS and the phones upgraded everything was fine.

Just got off the phone with another one of our techs with the same issue. We updated the firmware on the SS for the 1140 phones to C8Q and it fixed his issue as well. These have all been 5.5 systems.
