Does anyone know the difference between the Windows .NET and windows 2000 server?

Also, I have a couple of computers running XP home edition- are they compatible with either servers??

Thanks!!

YES. Just XP can use more of the advanced features.

.NET is basically 2003 now.

oops, i overlooked the word 'home' [blush]

In which case, neither server will .. serve you, unless for drive mappings.
There is a way to get XP Home get on to Domains, but it was indeed never intended to.

Here are some of the differences between Windows 2000 and Server 2003 (.net)

In practical terms, I find settings have been tidied up on Windows Server 2003. Better Group Policy Management, more secure IIS. Remote Desktop for Terminal Servering into the Domain Controller - in full color.

Here are more independent views on the improvements.

I just remembered, you can also setup permissions on Windows XP Home. You have to do the following:
1)reboot the pc in safe mode.
2)Open Windows Explorer or similar so you can see the drives.
3)right click on an ntfs drive.
4)click properties.
5)You can now see the Security tab in the properties dialog box for an NTFS drive.

Hope that helps someone.
