For my project i need to import the contacts from a outlook exchange server into my Visual Basic program. These contacts are stored in a pst file (i guess), but i do not have exchange on my pc, only a regular outlook express 6. Are the pst file from outlook express and from outlook exchange the same ? so can i use my own pst file from outlook express for testing purposes?? and where can i find this pst file on my system ?

Thx.

A pst (Personal Information Store) file is not part of Exchange Server or Outlook Express. It's stored on the hard drive and opened by Outlook. If Outlook is in Internet Only mode, it's the only info store. If Outlook is connected to Exchange Server then it can be used as well as an Exchange Server info stores (mailbox and public folders).

You will need Outlook 98 or later installed on the client and can access the pst via the Outlook object model or CDO 1.21.

Alternatively you could get the owner of the pst to export it from Outlook as a csv file for your VB app tp process.
