difference between new and refurbished.

I posted this in the cp forum but hadnt gotten a replay so I thought I would ask here too.

I had a customer upgrading from flash to call pilot and specifily ask for a new cp/messaging 150. I ordered and paid extra for a new system but looking at the packaging I think it may be a refurbished unit. Is there any way I can tell for sure? I need to either exchange this one or get the price adjusted if it is and will mark that vendor off my list if they have tried to pull a fast one. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally if it is refurbished it will not come in a Nortel box with matching labeling. Another thing you can check is to log into the unit and see if any codes have been activated on it. You can not really go buy the date because I’ve seen them new with date codes of 2007.
 
Keep in mind as well that it is a manufacture discontinued product. Avaya announced End of Sales for Norstar and Norstar CallPilot in May 2010. The last order date for a new system was Oct 4, 2010.

At this point, there may only be refurbs available.
I don't know of many companies that have the funds available to purchase a stock of discontinued merchandise to sit on a shelf in hopes of selling it prior to End of Life.

If the company that did the refurb is good, there isn't really anyway to tell. You could try checking the KRS to see if it has any current keycodes generated against the serial number.
