Diff btw login and rlogin in /etc/security/user file.

Hi ALL,

Can anyone tell me what is the exact difference between login and rlogin in user file in /etc/security.Actually i want to block the login for particular user,but the problem is when i give the atrribute login=false he is still able to login and when i give rlogin=false then he is not able to login to the server.The mode of login in above case is through telnet.

To clarify, do you want to block a specific user from connecting to the server via telnet (or any remote terminal session)and/or from logging in at the system console? It seems like you already solved your blocking issue.

Setting rlogin=false will deny the user any remote access to the machine (ssh,telnet,ftp,etc). Setting login=false will deny the user from logging in to the system console or attached serial terminals.

As an aside, I would recommend setting rlogin=false for root and making administrators su to root if needed. This will provide an audit trail of who is using root on the system. Permitting direct log in as root will not tell you who is accessing the machine. Some admins also set login=false for root for this reason.
