Hello,

I'm new to Direct Inward Dial (DID). How can I tell if an extension has a DID trunk assigned to it?

Thanks,
Steve

Contact your provider and ask what range you have.
All extensions that match this range are DID.

I have never seen a page in the Definity were the DID range is stored. If there is one, please let me know....

Regards,
Erik

If have this information, and your permitted to do so, put in the bulletin board, so you and other people know where to look next time.

On Definitey G3SI I know there is not a page where the DIDrange will be specified. EPalle is correct, this must come from your Carrier. I may be wrong if there is something newer out but I been done this road before for a range of over 800 numbers.

DID comes in on your ISDN usually. When the call comes in it passes across dtmf digits that usually consist of four digits. Example if you have the 123-555-5600 range of DID's on your ISDN line, then when 123-555-5610 rings in, it's going to pass over 5610 to your pbx via DTMF. If you have ext 5610 setup, that extension will ring. It's pretty much that simple. So, to setup did, if have it, you only need to setup a station as the last four digits of the DID in your system.

4 digits is not always the norm. 3 digits would work in that scenario. We usually set up our dialplan for all available DID's, then FAC's and DAC's....that's where I would start. If the information is not accurate, I would then go to the service provider.

To find out if a extension has a d i d number assigned to it call the number using the 7 or 10 digit number. If u don't know what the first digits to put in front of the extension, use the same digits that other extensions are reached from the outside. If u don't know if any other users have d i d numbers, then do list trunks. If u don't have any d i d trunks or isdn or t-1 trunks, then u don't have extensions that can be reached from the outside using the direct inward dial method.
