I have a Diamond SupraMax 56i PCI S98-2359 modem installed. I am running 98SE. I cannot get the modem to hookup at anything other than 1200kps. The previous modem always hooked up at 48,000. What can I do with this modem to speed up the connection? I went to the Diamond website and didn't get help. Can anyone help me?

To start I would check what the Max. Port Speed is set to. Go to Start>>>Settings>>>control panel and double-click on Phone and Modem Options. Go to the Modems tab and then go to the properties for you modem. Under the General tab make sure the MPS is set to the highest number. If so make sure that you have the right driver installed for the modem/that you used the manufacturer's cd to install it. I have had a Diamond modem before and haven't had problems with it in 98 or 2k. Good luck and let me know if these things have or haven't worked please.

I have checked its set at the highest setting 115,200 I believe. The driver is for the 2350 supramax which the diamond website suggests. I can't for the life of me figure this one out.

I'm using that same modem and having no problems. I have two, actually... One running on a Windows XP workstation and one running on a Windows 98 workstation.

When you installed it, did you use the driver that Windows found by default? Or did you use the one that came on the CD???

I had trouble the first time I installed it when I let Windows use the driver it found automatically. Once I reinstalled from the driver on the CD, it worked OK.

Be careful also... When I told it I had a CD, it checked it, found the driver and said "It found a better driver" and asked if I wanted to install it, but, if you paid attention... it was still trying to install the Windows driver even though it found the one on the CD. I physically had to go and change it. Bizarre... never had that happen before and a little frustrating (I ended up changing the driver twice, cause I wasn't paying attention the first time and missed it.)

Since then... no problems.
