Hello,

I just recently upgraded a Windows 2000 laptop to XP.

I have a GPRS capable cell phone (Motorola V66) that I connect to the laptop via a special USB cable.

The configuration worked under 2k but when I upgraded to XP the GPRS no longer worked.

Interestingly I have no problem using the GPRS on a desktop XP machine, so I have ruled out that the problem is simply windows xp.

What's strange is that i can't make ANY dial-up connections now (I think this is the root of the problem).

When running the "New Connection Wizard" I click Next, choose "Connect to the Internet", then "Set up my connection manually", then I would LIKE to choose "connect using a dialup modem" but this option is greyed out. The only option available is "connect using a broadband connection that is always on".

I have tried reinstalling the GPRS modem several times and this does not correct the problem. Interestingly I can use both the Motorola and my USRobotics 56k pcmcia modem with HyperTerminal but I cannot make standard DialUp Networking connections.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I should do to resolve this?

Thanks,

Dan Hollenbach

Hi, I have come across this before...can you install XPSP1 on the XP Laptop?

Thanks kippy13,

My WiFi card works so I'll try installing SP1 later when I'm in range of my school's wireless network.

For the GPRS uninstall the device in Device Manager, and let XP rediscover it on startup.

Thank you everyone!

I should have installed SP1 sooner! That did the trick.
