New system, new Xp Pro install. CXT SoftV92 Data Fax Modem.
Can connect fine but icon does not appear in systray despite "Show icon in notification area when connected" being checked. I cannot disconnect at all when I try through ncpa.cpl (network connections)-is there another way? It has only the "connect" option, it is as if windows isn't recognising the connection. While browsing I intermittently get the dialup connection window pop up asking me to connect, further reinforcing my suspicions that windows doesn't know it is connected.
Please help, I have exhausted all the options I know.

Thanks,
Daniel.

Can you dial the connection manually,, ie go thru start / connect to, and establish the connection. If so, then check IE and the connections tab, and see what the settings are there. When dialing, do you here the framiliar "squeek and squak", of the modem?

There is nothing wrong with the connection, the problem is that xp doesn't recognise (consisitently) it is connected.

@jmd0252 The system was purchased from a reputable retail store.

@linney Thanks I'll see how I go

Daniel.

Solved it! Thanks linney.

It would appear that some network dll's were not registered correctly.

Fix: regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll
