I need some help with remote connection to Redhat 8 server via modem. What files do I need to edit and what is the correct syntax for the inittab? I am using a Multitech 2834zdxb.

Your remote connection to RH 8 through serial or tcp/ip protocol ?
You set the modem auto answer. You just use hyperterminal/minicom from remote site dial to your RH 8.
Sure, you should use atdt no.phone or 9,no.phone through PABX
This is through serial to serial connection without tcp/ip protocol.
Good Luck...:)

S0:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -x 3 -s 9600 -n 2 ttyS0
S1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -x 3 -s 9600 -n 2 ttyS1

We are using Hayes Optima 9600's, so u use your own baud rate. Use rpmfind.net to get your mgetty*.rpm.

good luck, and let us know
