We have IP Office 6. One of the buttons on the 1408 handsels is programmed to be an "intercom" where you push it, hit the extension and are automatically connected to their speaker phone. This is nice, and was wondering if anyone knows how to set that up so that someone can dial into the system and do the same thing.

We also have a button for "page-all" which is set to "group paging" which will do the same thing (turn on the speakerphone on all phones for announcements or paging).

The buttons are programed as "automatic intercom" and "group paging" where the group paging is pointed to a hunt group.

Dial paging shortcode should do the trick :)

Ok--let me ask you a basic question..how do you dial the short code when dialing in from outside the facility?

As far as I know, we don't do mobile twinning and don't use VM Pro. We MIGHT have DDIs. I believe when they set it up that the guy said we had a bunch even if we were going to use them (I just don't know what they are, but will try to look that up). Any other way?

Sorry for being so basic on my skill level.

No, those 3 are the only easy ways I can think of, there are the other kind of convoluted ways of using someones mailbox breakout to the shortcode or calling a user forwarded to the shortcode, have never tested those in this scenario though :)

Wait--I am SOO stupid. We are using VM Pro. I thought that was the name of a piece of software that each user would have on their desk.

OK--so using VM Pro--How do you set that up? I haven't used VM Pro much at all. I am playing with it now and sort of figuring it out, but not clear yet.

No luck so far, but time to go home. Will tackle this again. Thank you so much for your help on this!

I found out that we actually have about 20 DID/DDI numbers--they just all defaulted to the main one. So I set one aside and directed it to the short code and BAM--it worked!!

You sir (or ma'am) are amazing and I want to thank you for all your help.

Are you really sure you want to do this?

Have you considered all the implications of allowing an external caller to dial a number & page all handsets (such as a hoax caller ringing in & shouting abuse)?

if you do add some thing of this nature then make sure you have some security precautions in place (pin code, although this can encourage hackers, or trusted CLI only)

Yes, we were already thinking about people prank calling.

Our plan right now is to have it open (but only tell a few select people at our location) and if there is a problem, then restrict to certain numbers.

Thanks for the help. I wouldn't have known how to do this without your comment about CLI.

If you use VMPRO to do it, you can PIN protect it.
