Using W2K servers, and our DHCP is not updating our DNS servers. The server IP's are listed properly in the DHCP, and when I tested them (the servers) by name the resolved ok.
A bit confused here... Have you assigned your servers DHCP addresses rather than static addresses? (generally this is not recommended).
To enable the DHCP server to update A records of the DNS Server you use the DNS tab within the DHCP scope properties. You will need to tick the "Automatically update DHCP client information in DNS".
All the servers have static address. The DHCP is on a different server than the DNS. On the DHCP server/properties:
The DNS tab has "Automatically update DHCP client information in DNS" checked, and "Always update DNS" is also checked.
"Discard forward lookups when expires" is checked.
"Enable updates for DNS clients that do not support dynamic update" is checked.
The DNS servers have the IP and name of the DHCP server entered and the name has been resolved.
Thanks for the link to the Microsoft site, it is very informative.
Any other ideas would be appreciated, I think I'm just overlooking some simple thing.
