I want to connect my 2500 to my broadband service. This service issues IP address by DHCP and so I want the 2500 to learn its e0 IP address. the router seems quite happy for me to set this up for a serial interface but not the ethernet.
12.0.7(T) if I remember right is the miminum for DHCP addressing of the ethernet port. What I have done is bought a used Webramp firewall which does DHCP for 100 bucks (works better then a Linksys) and then feed that output into the cisco which wanted the static IP. It has several advanges this way. Having a DMZ zone between the firewall and the "real" network is useful for testing and isolating your home network from intruders. I also have a terminal server setup on the DMZ zone for accessing my router lab from the internet. Again, the DMZ keeps people away from my real network.
