I recently upgraded a Windows 2000 SBS network to a Windows 2003 network. I noticed that two systems running MAC OS X will not obtain an IP from the DHCP Server running under Windows 2003. The MAC reports IP in use and then continues to try to reregister itself and cloging up DHCP with many BAD ADDRESS entries. If I try to manually assign an IP I get IP already in use even though it is not. The two MAC OS X work fine when I have them in a mini network using TCP/IP. I am stumped

try deleting the leases in DHCP....

failing that, maybe the DHCP has got messed up and needs redoing?

are there any reservations or exclusions?
do you have any firewalls blocking net traffic on your Macs?

After much troublshooting I ended up setting up a small environment as follows, MAC, Switch, Primary AD Server which was running DHCP, to no avail the MAC obtained an IP, Then I moved into the previous theory bad nic on the network, After much troubleshooting I was able to determine that the two SonicWALL PRO 3060's out of the box unconfigured and untouched just plugged into the network for some unknown reason chat on the network and shutdown the MAC enviroment from obtaining an IP, I have no idea why, just know that so long as these two SonicWALL's are unplugged from the network everything is fine. Go figure!
