Hi
can anybody answer my question please. When a Avaya ip phone sends out a dhcp request on the default vlan it is taggged with an option from lq2=vlan number in options 176 or 242. I know that it changes to the correct vlan it has been assigned to in the switch but i am not sure how it sends the request for the dhcp scope in the voice vlan. Can anybody explain this to me? does it always have a dhcp relay request or ip helper in the voice vlan to send it to the correct dhcp server.thanks

A new phone will have no idea about VLAN's and should send out an untagged frame (which should end up in the default VLAN). How you handle it from there is up to you. You can either set the L2Q values in the DHCP scope, IP-Network-Map, or 46xxsettings.txt file.
