Can anyone tell me about the 4 steps a DHCP server goes through in assigning an IP address

1. IP lease discover - 0.0.0.0 source addr, client broadcasts to 255.255.255.255 looking for dhcp server.
2. IP lease Offer - The listening DHCP server sends a broadcast of an offer of an IP address from the pool.
3. IP lease request - client sends a broadcast of the accepted offer and includes DHCP server IP in packet for the server that is supplying the address.DHCPREQUEST
4. IP lease acknowledgement - The DHCP server with the accepted offer broadcasts an acknowledgement to the client.
DHCPACK

I'd just to add that if the client previously had an address allocated (and it is still cached), it will request that same address again in the DHCPREQUEST of step 3.

I think that is worth adding as it confused me for a while!
