I am trying to enable dhcp relay over my multihomed RRAS server.

Gateway server with real world IP + private iP address running windows 2003 RRAS.

DHCP Server with private IP address and 192.168... scope ready to go.

When clients VPN in to the rras server they connect and authenticate fine however the RRAS server is only using APIPA ip ranges not my private DHCP scope.

The dhcp relay is pointing to the right server (internal) and in RRAS Servername>Properties>IP the right adapter is selected yet it STILL cannot contact the server?

between the RRAS and private network there is only a switch, so no firewall or router blocking anything.

Do i have to open RRAS up for something?? I have no idea?

The primary purpose for doing this is because i want to
1) centrally manage my DNS (rras can do this through its static assignments however i need to configure and assign predefined DHCP options on the dhcp server for my WYSE terminnals. (so they automatically configure themselves properly)

If anyone has any ideas i would be eternally greateful this has been driving me NUTS for the last week or so.

Cheers and thanks in advance!!

Why do you use DHCP relay agent if your DHCP server in the same subnet?

If you choose the right one (Internal adapter) you should get IP address from your DHCP.

did you set rras to use a specified block of IPs frmo DHCP, and did DHCP reserve them for you

almost got a paragraph there :)

Howdy Everyone,

Thanks firstly for both your replies.
I was being stupid

2 things i was stuffing up wrong!
Assumed that the relay needed to be enabled no matter what (so when no messages were coming up assmed it was stuffed)

Secondly, Was assigning a DHCP scope other than that of the private LAN. (assumed that this )

Ie DHCP Scope 192.168.0.1
Private Servers were 10.0.0.*

Maybe this config can still be arranged but being new to RRAS i have no idea. :)

anyway thats the only chage i made, oh and i think i changed the internal LAn Card to point to the internal DNS server ONLY (also the dhcp server)

Thats it.
Thanks again for your help :)
