I have multiple DNS servers. Some of them will hand out a second or third so on and so on address to a machine that already obtained an IP. Instead of the standard computer icon it have a computer with a phone next to it icon. Which I believe denotes a RAS connection. But I know these machines have no need to connect via RAS as they are on the LAN wired to the network. Can I block the DHCP server from giving out RAS addresses? Will that effect any other process?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

well.. you CONFIGURE what the DHCP gives out.. maybe find out what port RAS works on, then block that at the switch..

So there isn't any way to configure DHCP to just not give out an IP to a RAS connection? I'll look into blocking the port though. I don't believe I have anybody with a legitimate need for connecting via RAS.

Thanks,

Aaron

well.. like i said.. your DHCP should not give out anything but an IP unless you configure it to..

so if you install a dhcp server.. the only 2 things it can give out at that point is the IP address and the SUBNET Mask..

YOU HAVE to configure it to hand out DNS, Default Gateway, RAS.. ect..

I was looking around and didn't find anything obvious pertaining to RAS. But I was just taking a quick look I will look into it further. It is being used for dns as well as IPs but maybe something to do with RAS was not removed or disabled. My boos originally configured DHCP on the servers. That's the only reason I don't just know off the top of my head.

Thanks again,

Aaron
