DHCP Query

Does anyone know it is possible to setup client pc's to remember the last ip address it was issued in the event of the DHCP server being unavailable ie crashing. I have heard it can be done but have not been able to find anything as yet.

Well the lease time is 8 days by default you could increase that so they will keep the address for longer, however i'm not sure the client will stop using an address if it can't contact the DHCP server only if the DHCP server informs it that another client is using that address.

Hi,

You could give the machine a reservation from within DHCP snapin in order for it to always have the same config. Or just give it a static IP?

Actually i think the stack will eventually fail but 8 days should be long enough to restore a DHCP server.

just don't restart any of the clietns in the meantime until the DHCP is back up!
