DHCP problem on SBS 2003

Ok here is the problem that I am having.
My DHCP Server service is set to automatic, but sometimes when new users (people coming in from out of town connecting to our wireless with laptop, or clients loging in via the VPN) try to get an ip address, it will hang, and deny them an ip, making them end up with an APIPA addy.

We are all on the same segment, so we arnt using any relays or any such thing.

The strange thing is, that when I go into services and manualy start the DHCP service, people can start getting their IP addresses with no problem.

I would prefer to keep ther service set at automatic if anyone knows what the problem is...

the dhcp server service should not stop or be stopped. If it is, check your system event log to see why.

you can post some of the error messages here and try to help resolve them with you.

Thats just the thing.. there are no errors in the event log at all. Its like its on, but it really isnt. Should I just set it to always be on, rather than Automatic?

you have three options,

Disabled, Manual, Automatic

DHCP Server should be Automatic, and in the Started state.

That means it should always be on, and started, if not, you must have something in the event log stating why it stopped. On reboot, that service should start and serve IP Addresses.

The only thing I found was:

"The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a DC and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool."

If u right click on your scope, do you have a deactivate, is your scope full? any reservations conflicting?

Im at the point id have to show u screen shots er somethin, im running SBS 2003 too, no probs, i get same error you get about DHCP, but i serve IPs no issue...

So the service is stating STOPPED occasionally, and is set to automatic??

I do not have a deactivate on my scope when I right click it. In fact when I went into the DHCP console, DHCP was not even started, again

The service doesnt say anything at all in the Services mmc. It is set to automatic and just has a blank where it normaly says started. I can click it and start it. I will check it a day later, and it will be black again.
