DHCP over router to remote office

Hi we have a very small office of only 20 users which are connect to our main office on a 2mb VPN, we use Cisco routers and I wondered how we can get the remote office to use DHCP from our main offices network. We don't wnat a server in the remote office to do this, and wnat them to if possible use the same scope.

Let the remote sites local Cisco router do it for you. It can serve as the DHCP server on the remote LAN. Check your IOS on the router.

I agree with Bob. The only thing I would add it to make sure you do not accidentally overlap DHCP scopes. (which is easy to do if you are not careful)

i.e. make sure that the DHCP pool on your cisco, although in the same subnet, is not overlapping addresses handed out by your DHCP server in the main office.

Hi all,

I am pretty much wanting to do the same thing. I have a remote location, no dhcp server. there will be a t1 access to the main office that router will route them into our network or out on another T1 to access the internet. I want the cisco router to assign dhcp (including the dns addresses for our isp). The vendor says that can't be done. I pulled some Cisco IOS information from Cisco's web site, for my cisco router, and it looks to me that it can be done, that is, hand out tcp/ip addresses, dns addresses etc.. Cisco routers are not my area of expertise. Opinions on what I want to do?

another way to go would be to have your router setup as a dhcp relay agent. this way there are no scope overlapping issues. alittle more configuration though.
