DHCP cause a very long bootup time

I recently bought a brand new computer but have been dissapointed from the beginning with it. It takes 3min to boot up! I removed the manufacturer splash screen & noticed it was taking a long time on the command line DHCP...??? Im not very knowledgeable about computers, so i turn to you for help. What can i do if anything about this problem, is there anything i can do to disable this? Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello,

If you are running your computer within a network, then that problem may be network-related, and you should ask this to your network administrator.

It may also happen if you leave a network cable plugged in your nic (network card) while it is not connected at the other side. Detecting the physical presence of the cable, the system would try to reach a dhcp server to get a network address. This behaviour certainly will occur if you haven't set up a particular networking configuration (it is the default setup of a new Windows install).
It may still try for a long time. I think that delay can be parametrized.

Once it's up and running, do an ipconfig /all and let us know the results. (Wondering about 169.254.x.x) Also, Grunt is correct. If you are on a network, ask the admin. Also, once connected to a tracert to your server, (If on a network), and see how long it takes.

This is my computer @ home, its not on a network. One thing i did realize, is that when i turn off or disconnect my DSL Modem & then restart the computer, its says "there was an error & that I should check my cable", then proceeds to bootup it 30 sec! I wonder if there is anyway to bypass this so i dont have to turn off my modem every time i want a fast bootup. Glen, I am not at home right know, but as soon as i get a chance i will do an "ipconfig/all" & let you guys know the results.
