I currently statically address my handsets as I only have 10 but would like to try DHCP

I have read the LAN administrator's guide but have a few questions:

As I will not be using a TFTP server, do I keep my firmware on the actual s8300?

What does MCIPADD refer to?

Any pointers would be appreciated, I do not have easy access to any network people

Thanks

To use DHCP, change the phones to an ip addy of 0.0.0.0 and the router ip to your DHCP server/gateway. The MCIPADD is a setting used on your DHCP server for ip addressing 4600's. Read page 50 to get a in depth DHCP addressing.
You may not even need to use option 176 if you use 6 and 15.

In the future everything will work...

Thanks NX01

If I use options 6 & 15, what should I set the SSON to on the handsets (HOLD7766)? It's currently 176

Do I add the string below "as is" or do I need to replace the xxx and zzz with specific addresses?

Also, what do I set <path> to? var\home\ftp\pub or a location on the DHCP server?

MCIPADD=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,MCPORT=yyyy,TFTPDIR=<path>,TFTPSRVR=
zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz

Thanks

1. "If I use options 6 & 15, what should I set the SSON to on the handsets (HOLD7766)? It's currently 176"

-You can leave it and enter the MCIPADD only.

2. Do I add the string below "as is" or do I need to replace the xxx and zzz with specific addresses?

-Yes, they should be changed to the appropriate ip addresses
For example:
- Option 6: “aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa”
- Option 15: “dnsexample.company.com”
- Option 66: “tftpserver.yourco.com,zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz”
- Option 176: “MCIPADD=xxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”
MCPORT is defaulted to 1719.

3. Also, what do I set <path> to? var\home\ftp\pub or a location on the DHCP server?

-The path should be set on the tftp server itself. If you are using a web server, the latest firmware will hit https and http before the tftp server. I run a web server and tftp server on the same box. It will pull the firmware from the http port 80 before trying the tftp portion.
