Hi, I installed the latest MS critical updates over the weekend on a couple of our NT4 servers, including our PDC and a server running DFS... The DFS server maps to some shares on the PDc, i.e. if you reference \\dfsserver\share you get redirected to \\pdc\share...

At least that was what happened until we installed the critical updates!! :( ... today, windows 98 pc's cannot browse the dfs share. Experimenting has shown that you CAN browse the dfs share from windows 98 immediately after you've logged in but after 5 seconds or so you no longer can!! :( ... help!

I have already tried recreating the shares, resetting all the permissions, and reinstalling and configuring dfs... The only thing I havent been able to do is reboot the PDC, which I won't be able to do in office hours... any thoughts anyone??

thanks.

Adrian.

Only thing i would say is reboot the PDC, and see what happenes. Alot of updates need a reboot to be configured properly. Its more than likely the updates havnt taken effect on the PDC and have on the DFS, and are conflicting. Reboot the PDC and let me know if this works.

Hmm, reboot of the servers didn't work.. I ended up setting up DFS on one of my windows 2000 servers and then used our login scripts to remap all our users mapped network drive.... No happy about it though!! It really does seem like one of Microsofts 'critical' updates killed our NT4 dfs server..... not good.

Adrian.
