device mgr. ata controller !

I recently purchased an ECS K7S5A mainboard. I'm running win98se. In device manager I'm getting exclamation Points ( ! ) next to primary ata controller and secondary ata controller. I updated the drivers for both devices but there was no change. I've reloaded windows, but no help. I've removed them from the device manager, but after restart windows finds them and puts them back in but still with the same problem. It seems there are no hardware conflicts. One other curious smyptom is that the cdrom does not show up in device manager but it still works.

is it a via chipset? if it is update using their chipset drivers if all else fails return the motherboard or check your drive settings
