I saw someone with a similar problem yesterday in my searches, but I can't find the thread again. Sorry if this is redundant.
A win2k server (sp4) has Backup Exec 9.0 on it, but has lost its tape drive reference. The tape drive shows up in the Windows device manager. If I remove it from the device manager, it'll show up again after a reboot (but not if I tell it to scan for new hardware manually). I've downloaded new tape drivers from Veritas but cannot install them; the PC just sits there at "preparing installation...."
As a short term work around, I wanted to install a USB hard drive just to be able to backup my data to something, but I get a Windows error telling me that a hardware device is already being installed and I have to wait for that device to finish installation. But there's nothing else installing. I get the same error even after I reboot the server.
Is there a way to purge what Windows thinks is some kind of device installation going on?
Thanks.
