Develop Stand-alone applications based on Access

Hi there,

I've been programing in Access for a couple of years and have a few sizeable projects under my belt that I a still maintain and support. Recently I put together a small database for Preventive Maintenance of the machines in our shop, but learned that the new computers to be stationed at each machine/work-station will not be getting Access installed on it.

I have heard of a "MS Access Developers Addition", but can't seem to find any information on it. What I am wondering is if it, or anything eles, would allow me to create an Access-based stand-alone application to run this database on a machine without the need for MS Access to be installed.

I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you can offer me

Dear NightZEN,

Yes, to distribute an MS Access aplication to a PC, without access, will require that you build an install procedure to install a Runtime version of Access. The MS Office Developer will allow you to do this.

An alternative is to write a front end to the database in Visual Basic, which can compile to an executable file.

Dear NightZEN,

Yes, it certainly will work with FrontEnd/Backend.

Remember, Access is a file server type system.
So, the server does not need MS access at all. The server is doing nothing more than storing the BackEnd DB file. (Unless you are also running the FrontEnd on the Server)
