Determining what OCXs are in use

Last week, we burned a setup CD with the results of the setup wizard, and used to install our system yesterday. However, we found that if an OLE control was being used by the app, the setup wizard didn't have the OCX file and didn't register it.

We got around it by copying the files in and registering them manually. But is there a way to make sure the setup will do it for us? I see I can mark OCXs if I click ActiveX controls on the setup wizard. Will this put them into the setup.cab, copy them down to the correct location and register them?

If so, is there an easy way of finding ALL the OLE/non standard VFP controls used in a project? I'm relying on the guy who wrote the app in the first place, which is not something I enjoy doing.

Thanks

Hello.

Yes, if you'll check your ocx controls in the setup wizard, it will install and register them for you.

Also, you can use the Wise Installer or InstallShield. They have an option to 'watch' your app as it's running. After that, you'll get a log file with all the dll's and ocx'es used in your app.

Hope this helps Grigore Dolghin

So there's no way of finding out ahead of time and with no additional software what OCXs and DLLs are being used by a particular app?

Okay, thanks.

Not really, I guess it was assumed that the person putting together the application setup would know what the application requires - either by direct experience or through the developer's documentation.
