Is there a way to find out which terminal on an option 11 c that a 3903 handset is connected to? I forgot to note the terminal # before I OUTed the phone & now am not sure which of several inactive terminals to put the new station on...

thanks!

that's usually a tone out the jack problem.. here's a hint.. prt a copy of the tnb, i do mine once or more a quarter and use a script to sort it.. then when one of us does that, we have a copy of the database. we also use procomm and set the redisplay buffer to 50K, then we can backup as much as a couple of days if we don't do any major jobs.. both of those help.. if i had a few dozen jacks i would build default sets and find it that way.. in my switch with 8000 stations i would break out a tone

You could also note the serial number of a set from the label on the bottom. Then, plug it into the jack that you out-ed accidentally.

If you don't have too many vacant TN's, create a test set (or copy an active one) into a vacant TN. Type IDU X (X = the TN#). If you get set info, compare it to your serial number previously recorded. If you get an NPR error, there is no set on that particular TN. MOV your test TN to the next vacant one. Lather, rinse, repeat until you get the correct set info.

Rather tedious, but if you don't have the capability to trace a wire, it's about the only way to use the switch to trace.

HTH.

I've done that myself. Fortunately I remembered which card it was on, and just did a LUVU in LD 20 and typed in 12-1-1 and narrowed it down to 2 unused TNs.

that was decent, remembering the card is cheating

Thanks everybody, I just traced it back since in our small site that is easier than figuring out how to try the test set idea above.

The best part is you can walk around campus all day with a tone generator and a tone finder and a serious look and people will leave you alone thinking you got something important you must be doing.
