hi there

i am having an issue with my backup agents stating

NDMPD.NLM: Unable to initialize communication interface
Another application is currently using NDMP PORT: 10000
Further program execution is not possible.

how can i check to see if the port is open, i used tcpcon to check but i can see anything is there another way

the joys

it's backup exec 9 - i assume
the port will not be open - tcpcon will probably show no entry
if you nmap the port it will not show up either

i was going to try to phone backup exec about this as it happens on a few of ours and only a bounce seems to cure it

rebooted and bounced the cluster volumes and it worked cheers

I have a few questions?
First I'm being told that Veritas Backup Exec. 9.0 version has no way to change the port number 10000. Is this true? If not can someone tell me how to do it?
Secondly I'm also being told that port 10000 is registered to Veritas. From what I found on the Net it's just a network backup port for any piece of backup software. Is it true about Veritas or not?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

yep - i tried to phone veritas but after thirty minutes of music - i gave up

luckily it hasnt happened to much recently

All. This problem can be resolved by editing the BESTART.NCF file and adding the -!x switch. This will tell Backup Exec to disregard the port check. Hope this helps

give the man a star

never had this prob for months now but had it on one today and it works a treat
