I have a user that is having a problem with desktop shortcut icons he has created to network resources that are slow to open, or do not open at all. This only seems to occur when he has been away from the PC for a long period of time. When he comes back and tries to open a shortcut to a network folder, the resource doesn't open, he has the hourglass for 5-10 seconds, and then is able to open the resource on the second attempt. I have tested this without a screensaver and no difference in performance. Thanks for any help.

Does the Network set to automatically drops the connections after a while? It look that you are running another environment like Novell Netware with Netware Client. If yes, set name of the server to its IP address. When the users comes back to his desk, try IPCONFIG at a DOS window to trigger the connection.

Thanks. I just figured it out on Friday. It was a network connection issue. Several months ago, we had a server go down. WINS and DNS had to be moved to another server. DHCP took care of the changes, but this machine was still trying to use the old server. I cleaned up the WINS and DNS settings and all is working.
