Hi All,

Despite advice, a user has persisted in saving files directly to his desktop. We use win 2k, and the user has a roaming profile.

A good number of important files disappeared from the desktop for a while, then came back again, but now they appear to have gone for good.

I'm assuming these files are lost, but could anybody shed any light on whats actually happened here and whether the files will exist anywhere now? I guess its something to do with the size of the profile that was trying to be saved back to our server, but I don't really have any concrete evidence of that.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks!

Odd, although it's best not to have files on your desktop with roaming profiles they still shouldn't just disappear. I take if you checked both local and server copies of the profile?

Does the user actually roam between PCs? Possibly he's gone to PC with an old profile withuot the files in it and for some reason it hasn't merged the profiles properly - Win2K should do this properly though (I could see you might have a problem if he roamed to an NT4 Workstation though).

Don't you backup your profile server? Most of our restore requests result from profile corruption of some kind - we'd have a nightmare if we didn't back them up.
