Desktop Icons Do not open when double-clicking

I have Word,Excel and several other icons on my desktop. They used to open by double-clicking them. Now, when I double-click any of the icons nothing appears to happen. What be causing this? This is a PC at home.

Can you right click and get the menu with the Open option. If so do they open that way?

The other thing you could check is the double-click settings for your mouse in the control panel. If the settings somehow changed to a very fast double-click, you may not be doing it fast enough. Try changing it to a slower speed.

Have you tried to recreate the Shortcuts?

I experienced this exact poroblem yesterday, I just rebooted, and it was fine.
