Hello,

I have just been messing around in my vmware session to see what happens if i enable or disable the setting "Hide underlined letters for keyboard Navigation until I press the alt key" which is located in the display properties in the appearance tab when you click the effects button.

For test purposes i try it out with wordpad i dont see any change. Is anyone familiar with this setting?

It refers to the underlines in menus, and buttons that tell you what key accesses them.

for instance.

In wordpad you have the menu that reads:

File Edit View Inert Format Help

With the setting On you don't get the underlines unless you press the alt key.

With the setting off you get:
File Edit View Insert Format Help

Notice the underline under the first letter of all the words. This is the key access letter for the menus.

Press alt and the letter key for the corresponding menu to open.

Forgot:
"Format" gets the O since "File" is already using the F key.

This setting controls whether or not the letter that corresponds to the ALT key keyboard shortcut is automatically underlined without keying the ALT key . For example, when this setting is checked off or enabled in a Windows Explorer session you will notice that none of the letters in the Menu Bar are underlined. By pressing the ALT key you will see that the "F" in File, "E" in Edit, "V" in View, and etc. are now underlined. Now if you uncheck that setting and open a new Windows Explorer session, you will see that these letters are automatically underlined without having to press the ALT key. Have a look at the articles below for further explanation.

- Hide Underlined Letters for Keyboard Navigation Until ALT Key Is Pressed

- The letter key is not underlined on a button control when you create a keyboard shortcut by using Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005
