Hi Guys,

Installed Vista Business OEM SP1 on a Dell Latitude D610. Fresh install, configured various bits (local GPO's, installation of Office, Adobe reader, ActiveX, latest updates, AV etc.)

Ran sysprep to start in OOBE and to generalise. After reboot we boot to NIC and run a capture WinPE from a WDS server. All fine.

Then reboot.... BSOD. Same on Safe Mode. Nothing at all. Can't get to the BSOD error codes as it boots far too fast.

Yet it's the same installation on the same hardware...?!?!?!

We use local GPO hardware / device installation restrictions so I'm thinking it could be that, but whilst we spend another day doing it has anyone else got any other ideas?

Cheers,

Steve.

An old trick that sometimes works is to use a digital camera, or video camera, to get a snap of the BSOD.

Have you tried removing all easily removed hardware peripherals such as USB, printers, etc?

I forgot to say, about the only other thing you can look at is the Bios, whether setting that to Safe Defaults helps or not, or possibly any Bios update?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. In the end it was the group policy. Going to spend some more time in the next few days fine tuning it to see exactly what was causing it. Thinking if I set the following:

Computer – Admin – System – Device Installation – Device Installation Restricitions – Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings = “Enabled”

To "Disabled" instead then we can keep the local GPO hardware restrictions but disable them. I think this is what caused it...

Thanks again,

Steve.
