Dell sound card issue after clean install

I do on-site troubleshooting and repair, for some reason when I do clean installs on Dell systems (XP Home) I often run into an issue with the sound not working. When I look at the devise manager it tells me that the devise is working (No yellow circle is present) I usually install the chipset driver first thus avoiding this problem, however sometimes it still happens. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Are you using the machine-specific drivers downloaded from the Dell website?

I use the Dell disk specific to the machine, or if it's an add-in sound card, the driver disk that Dell provided, and it finds the appropriate driver. Then I simply click to install the drivers. I've never had issues.
