I have recently serviced & re installed win 98se on two different Dell TX500 desktop machines, both of these have and do suffer with random shutdowns of varying degrees, I have checked the power managment set up on both, and all looks well.

Does anyone know something that I Don't about this problem on this particular machine, I have never had this problem on any other Dell Machine.
Thanks
Jay Jay Kay.

A little known fact about DELL's is that the PSU is not a standard one. My contact, GrandpaCarl, informs me that if you put a standard PSU into a DELL you can expect fireworks at some stage. I don't know if this information is of any use to you since I don't know what you did when you serviced these machines, but random restarts sounds more like a heat problem, so perhaps a check of the CPU temp might be prudent.

Kind regards

Phil

my sons Dell would shut down windows from time to time. no help from the Dell interns support staff. finally found the problem myself after many hours and days. outpost firewall had a corrupt driver, uninstalled the program and everything is working fine just fine. hope this gives you a little light as to your problem, who knows.
