Dell Lap top Inspiron 8100

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 with 256 ram. I would like to increace this to 512 ram. I need to open my machine to see what I have so I can order the proper chip(s). Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to take every screw off from the bottom?

Most laptops have a small "door" (about 4"x4") on the bottom, held by a couple of screws. You have two slots accepting a max of 512 meg of memory. The computer comes "native" with 128 meg, so you may have two 128 sticks or one 256 meg. If you do have two 128's, you"ll have to order two 256's for 512 meg (or one 256 for a total of 384 meg).

Mine has only one screw hold the panel in place. The panel is located near the center back of the machine.

And I agree with micker377, open it up before ordering anything. Dell offered either 2x 128 modules, or a single 256 module. It will profoundly change your ordering options for new RAM.

Hi. If you still have not purchased your ram I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 and would be willing to look for you to see where the screws are. And I agree with the others, don't remove more than two screws....
