I need to delete my old company greeting name on the auto attendant. I can make the change but the old company audio still appears. How do I erase the old company greeting before I add the new company greeting?

This really depends on how and where it is recorded.

Norstar Auto attendants play a greeting then play either a table instruction or the home menu of a CCR tree.

Please explain where/how you recorded your new company greeting. And which voice mail system you have connected.

Thanks Marv for responding. I had a vendor set it up 6 yrs ago and he has since retired. I suspect that the info is in a database table format and he may not have set it up properly. My new greeting remains, there is a 2-3 second pause and then the old company greeting appears. So I think I have to find out where the old greeting is stored(?) and then delete it. I added by my new company info by pressing feature 983, then input the default pw code 1020000, AA, greetings, recorded new greeting. System is about 15+ years old Nortel Meridian (not sure of exact model number) Any help would be much appreciated. Best.

The sure way is to listen to the old greeting before recording the new one.

Make sure you listen to greetings 1-4.

If the greeting is in the tree you must disable the tree before recording the new one.

Or go to F983, AA, table, 1, OK and then it will list what greeting is played at morning, afternoon, evening, non business.

The proper way to recording an AA is:

Record a greeting as you did in company greeting that says only "hello thank you for calling abc company" or something of that nature.

Then make a 2nd recording in either the table or a CCR that provides instructions. "if you know the extention.... etc"

The mistake many novices make is putting everything into a company greeting all in one recording. There are reasons to split it up. The most common is if a caller is returned to the AA for whatever reason, they will hear the table or CCR. The company greeting is not repeated.

Thanks all for help. I had already checked and found no greetigs in 1-4. I also have no tree; I also have no greeting at morning, afternoon, evening, non business, etc. I think allworkguy may be in the area where the problem lies, as I think that the "call is returned to the AA for whatever reason, they will hear the table or CCR." I will try to make a "2nd recording in either the table or a CCR that provides instructions..."

Thanks again to all!

so basically you're going to record your welcome greeting in table 1, greeting 1 and assign for morning, noon, evening and after hours. disable tree, then record your main greeting in ccr tree 1, path 0 and build your tree with paths from there, correct???? all the best

Correct. And if that does not work, then I will reset everything and statrt over and do it the way it should have from the beginning. Many thanks!

you should have no problem and if you don't want the default prompt to play if you're going to put everything on a greeting in table i without a path you just need to trick the system into thinking there is one.

to do this you record a greeting in table 1/ assign it to your time slots/ disable tree and record a few seconds of silence in path 0/ create ghost path( digit to ghost ext.) then save your tree. your greeting will always play on return to aa. just a thought if you're not building a tree. all the best

atdjr123 why would you bother recording a silent CCR path 0 if you're not using CCR. Just disable it in the table and leave it disabled. Extra complication for nothing,

The purpose of using Company Greeting AND table recording is to provide a different greeting for day/night/evening/non-business if required. If you put the whole greeting in the table you can't distinguish open and closed to the caller and if you are returned to the AA the caller will hear that he/she has reached ABC company all over again, which is also unnecessary.

for the simple fact that if you have a business that doesn't want a full rime auto and wants a simple greeting it's an option to implement do the default prompt does play.
also you can distinguish open and closed by recording that in the same table on another greeting and assigning it to non business hours.

let me clarify that, it's an option to implement so that the default greeting does not play the same instructions you have already recorded in a simplified environment. some may find it useful some may not...
