A fellow worker has developed an mdb database. However, it will only run on his computer. He wants to share it with others in the company but does not know how or why it is restricted. When I open it on my computer, I get a dialouge box stating that I do not have read/write permissions.

He will give me access to his compter so I can change the secutiry settings so as to make the file available to everyone. He wants to be able to give copies of the file to others so they may use it.

What settings do I need to change so as to make the file available to all, i.e. no permissions required.

Thanks so much for your help.

The mdb should be in a shared folder where everyone, attempting to use it, should have Read-Write-Delete-Execute permissions on folder not only on the mdb file.

Plus in Options->Advanced->
Default open mode : Shared
Defaul record locking: Edited Record

Also, is there user-level security? Then who ever set it up should grant appropriate rigts to users...

Jerry,

Thanks so much. That is it. Yes, there is user lvel security.

Thanks. Also, I tried from my colleague's computer, where everything works on the mdb file... I created a blank mdb then exported everything from the troublesome file to the new blank file.

The new mdb was completely protection free.

Both solutions work just fine.

Thanks Again.
