I am reinstalling WinXP over a partial install, and since I ignore whether the installation will replace every file found there I would feel better deleting the Windows directory before attempting a reinstall.

Thanks in advance,

Hey, what if I were to convert the NTFS partition (C:) to FAT32, just so that I could delete the Windows folder?

Would this affect files like MP3s and text documents?

If you really want to edit your NTFS partition outside of a full install (which I do NOT recommend), you might want to try BART's PE ( There are steps there to build a bootable Windows XP CD with full read and write access to your NTFS partitions.

Again, I really don't think this is necessary. bcastner is right, a repair install is the better option.
