I setup a new user in AD and created a new mailbox, later I discovered that I had misspelt the users name, First I tried changing the name in AD without success, then I decided to delete the account & mailbox and start again, I deleted the user and the mailbox, did a mailbox cleanup and purged the mailbox storage, then I started again creating a new user with the correct name but..
any test message to this user is returned with a NDR, the error message says it is still trying to deliver the message to the old misspelt address, somehow the original user name is still being used by AD,
I am an Exchange Server 2003 newbie and would be grateful for any help

Have you tried Removing the Exchange Attributes, and re-attaching user to the correct Mailbox?

I did a workaround by adding an e-mail address with the wrong spelling to the users account
